{ Our Faulty Human Rationale }
This world is stupid. Really stupid. Mind you, dear reader, as I speak of the stupidity of this world, I’m not looking to take issue with inanimate objects like fire plugs or a bag of hammers. I am, however, referring to people in general. Stupid. And yes, the fact that most of us consider ourselves as relatively clever only drives the point home.
I’m stupid. Though some might argue that a one-forty-two IQ rates higher than the average bear, so what?!? I’ve made countless moronic moves in my lifespan, and I’m quite sure that I’m not done yet. I dare say most people have though. . . made many stupid moves, that is. Maybe that’s why society likes to grade on curves. In promoting our case for intellectual superiority, we humans tend to draw attention to the fact that we’re smarter than animals like sheep (and possibly dogs). Then, we move on to comparing ourselves to those “less-civilized” civilizations of the past, before weighing in on present-day mankind as a whole. We note, of course, how much we’ve evolved over time, i.e. how far we’ve come in the human race, as we itemize the accomplishments that we’ve collectively achieved, like discovering fire~ ~ ~ landing on the moon~ ~ ~ and inventing The Clapper. (We’re so clever;)
We find ways to gauge one another on who should be rated most intelligent by society’s standards. IQ tests and academic achievement~ who the most knowledgeable schmuck on Jeopardy is~ who it is that’s memorized their Shakespeare, and can easily differentiate Brahms from Beethoven~ or who it is that’s mastered deep philosophical thought. (You can go ahead and enter a big, juicy fart noise right here, dear reader, for you and I know that none of the aforementioned truly matters.) Still, people do look to so-called “intellectuals” for inspiration and insight. There’s no denying that it is the Einsteins and Hawkings of this world always seem to have our full attention. But then, Stephen Hawking never even believed in God, did he?!? Sooo. . . so much for the benefits of “genius”.
‘Course, we also live in an age where financial success and even shallow celebrity rate a regard from the masses. Why? I’m guessing the mainstream mentality figures a person must be at least somewhat sharp to make a name for themselves, or to strike it rich. But no. If anything, it seems that it’s often the imbeciles of society that are rising to so-called success these days. Their own kind, not knowing who to exalt, (and not having a golden calf handy), lift their fellow morons above the remaining masses. So that, clamoring around in cluelessness, it’s truly the blind leading the blind.
Now, believe it or not, some people still worship cows. As silly as it may sound, it’s true! And while some look to the planets and the stars for revelation, others seriously seek guidance from tarot cards, or follow the fortunes one may find in a stale bent cookie. None of us needs to go far to find stupidity. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone slide that extra penny over to the cashier. . . because their payment due ended in a ‘nine’. And what of all the stupid crap we incur via TV, or over our computer screens? Technology may be advancing, but overall intellect isn’t. Even most of the words that are meant to be taken seriously are ridiculous. And what of those knuckleheads that consume toxic laundry pods on dares? Or what of those idiots consistently smoking who eventually contract cancer, and have the audacity to ask, “Why me, Lord?!?”, as if they didn’t ask for, and deserve every bit of it? How ’bout when your friend claims to be “in love” with somebody they’ve just met (and made out with) moments ago? Or when that friend ends up having premarital sex, then wonders why the relationship and his life went to crap? Or when some married couple thinks it’d be a good idea to start cranking out babies, you know, to make things ‘better’ in their troubled relationship?!? What about those people seeking advice from their friends whose own lives are wildly riddled with chaos? Brilliant! When it comes to everyday samples of stupidity, the hits just keep coming. And I’m sure that any one of us could write a few thousand pages on all of the moronic behavior we’ve been subjected to. Am I right?
Yet, there are other seemingly more reasonable examples of simply making the wrong choices. Such as getting involved with someone we shouldn’t have? Or like buying a product that turned out to be truly second-rate? Same difference, you say? I hear ya. Maybe we’ve accepted the wrong job, because we thought it’d be worth the extra bucks, but it wasn’t. Or, possibly we’ve agreed to help someone with something we regret, simply ’cause it seemed like a good thing to do at the time. Even as we take and make our decisions seriously, we still make the wrong moves far more often than we should. Now granted, some things we’ll do on a sudden urge, whereas other decisions we’ll actually put thought into. But either way, it’s still our own rationale that’s ultimately responsible for the subsequent mistakes that follow. Plus, all that collateral damage of said actions as well. Throw a rock in a pond and there’s lots of ripples, you know? I’m sparing you all the examples here, assuming we’ve all made some serious errors in judgment. You’re welcome to take a moment to think about it though.
So, what can we conclude regarding our brains/ our mindsets and mentalities/ our thought- processes/ or our so-called intellects? Are they trustworthy? Can we rely on what we feel that we comfortably comprehend? What if we take our time, in order to wisely draw the best conclusions possible? How would we go about insuring that? Surely, this is where the wisdom of this age would dictate that we must deliberately pursue being smart, and sound, and prudent, and logical, and shrewd in making all the right moves. (Granted, all fine traits as a rule, yes. And I’m sure those on the political right would insist upon including common sense as well:) But consider the following if you will, dear reader ~
As men and women of God, we live for The Lord.
Please allow me to say that again~ As men and women of God, we live for The Lord. Amen? That is our sole purpose, and so, the only “good” decisions and the only “right” moves that we’ll make are those pleasing to God. Or in other words, simply doing the specific things He would have us do. Though these specific moves may qualify as ‘smart’ or ‘sound’ from a human standpoint, they may not be. Though these moves may be the most ‘logical’ from a human perspective, they may not be. And though these motions that God would direct us to may never be perceived as ‘clever’ or ‘shrewd’ to our fellow man, it matters not. In reality, these decisions, and the subsequent courses that our lives take in The Lord, may not even bring about what one’s faulty human rationale might conclude as positive results. We might get pretty jacked-up in the here and now. . . or end up rather unhappy. Typically, we only know what satisfies our base sensibilities. But once again, our human rationale is lacking, for the most part. One might even say it’s ‘faulty’, in that we so often make the wrong moves when following our own mindset, without consulting God. But that’s okay. We can rest assured, it’s meant to be like that. God has been involved since the get-go. And He has never made mistakes.
Therefore, we can relax in the knowledge that although God has indeed given us brains, and the ability to think, our minds are only equipped to a certain extent. . . that is, to whatever capacity He designed them to be. So, if we were to put intelligence on a curve, well, we would have to place God on top, with just a vast VAST disparity all that way down to a runner-up too embarrassing to mention. That being said, the very wisest conclusion that any of us can come to, is the realization of just how little we really know on our own.
Yet, what we DO know is that true wisdom and discernment flow from God alone. And that a certain reliance on The Lord is therefore called for 24/7.
Furthermore, whenever we consider God in His sovereignty, we must be reminded that not only is God in the best vantage point to know everything that’s transpiring, but that it is God on high that determines what is undeniably best in every aspect of life. And so, dear reader, we can speak of so- called intelligence (or the lack of it) all the live long day, but at the end of the day~ the spiritual maturity and Godly wisdom we embrace and adopt as our own is truly the loftiest mindset we can attain.
